How Our Mental Health Service Works: Comprehensive, Psychiatric And Behavioral Health Care

Your First Session With WKTA

Once you have visited with Josh on the phone or through email, your therapist will personally contact you to arrange further appointments. At WKTA, we utilize an electronic medical record system called “Simple Practice,” which enables clients to conveniently complete their therapy consents before the initial meeting with the therapist. While you’re free to discuss any of these consents during your first session, completing the paperwork beforehand enhances a more personal and human connection during your initial encounter with your therapist.

What Are Therapy Sessions Generally Like ?

Therapy can sometimes feel daunting, especially if you’re unsure about what to expect. Let’s draw a parallel to physical therapy for better understanding. When we seek help from a physical therapist for an injury, we know that exercise and gradual progress are essential to strengthen and heal our body. Similarly, behavioral therapy follows a similar concept in that it can take time and it is usually important to attend therapy consistently.

In behavioral therapy, the therapist isn’t a mystical figure with all the answers to fix everything you’re going through. Instead, mental health therapists focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship with you. Trust might take time to develop for some clients, while others may find it easier. Some individuals can clearly identify their challenges, while others have great difficulty identifying their challenges but “know something is wrong”.

Therapists are trained to collaboratively approach your unique challenges, but they are not all-knowing or capable of fixing things as a mechanic does with a car. When you begin therapy, you enter into a professional relationship with a highly trained individual whose purpose is to help you identify, clarify, and address the difficulties you face in life.

When Should I Seek Therapy For A Child In My Care?

Sometimes, society tends to believe that children are naturally tough or will outgrow their issues. However, this isn’t always true. It might be tough to accept that a child you care for could benefit from therapy. But it’s generally better to seek early intervention rather than waiting and backtracking. Moreover, when you call initially and are uncertain about whether something is an issue or not, you’re welcome to discuss it with Josh. And once you begin therapy, you can continue having conversations about whether something still presents a challenge.

Almost no matter how young a child is, they express themselves in their play and at WKTA, we have skilled play therapists who can help children express themselves in this way. Play therapy, like traditional “talk therapy” can help children understand challenges they face, express emotions and cope with adversity.

How Does Western Kansas Therapy Associates Work With Insurance Companies

WKTA is committed to maintaining transparency in our billing procedures. All billing is handled in-house and is not outsourced to external parties. We collaborate with various insurance companies to ensure that our providers are credentialed appropriately. The majority of these providers accept most major insurance plans, and we actively seek credentialing with smaller companies that have a substantial number of subscribers in our service areas, such as ProviDRs Care.

During each session, your therapist will keep you informed about any outstanding balance on your account after insurance processing.

To make the payment process convenient for you, WKTA can send you an electronic statement via email (with your consent) every month. The statement will include clear instructions on how to easily pay through the client portal.

If you have any questions or inquiries about billing or payments, feel free to reach out to us at our main contact number: 785-260-0924. We are here to assist you and ensure a smooth and transparent billing experience.

Does WKTA Have A Waitlist For Services

Regarding therapy services, we aim to schedule appointments within two weeks from your initial call, although the timing may vary slightly depending on the therapist’s availability and your personal circumstances. Nevertheless, we are committed to facilitating swift connections and starting therapy as soon as you prefer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a psychological evaluation?

At WKTA, we are fortunate to have two skilled practitioners, Dr. Marijo Rooney and Brett Bieberle, LMLP, EdS, who specialize in conducting comprehensive psychological evaluations for children and teenagers. Unlike therapy, a psychological evaluation is designed to examine various aspects of a child’s life and determine if there are any diagnostic concerns.

How long do psychological evaluations last?

The duration of psychological evaluations can vary based on multiple factors. One factor is the complexity of the child and their specific circumstances. Generally, the more intricate the situation, the longer the evaluation process may take to thoroughly assess and understand it. Another important factor is the availability of the child and their caregivers, as well as the availability of the practitioner conducting the evaluation.

What can Mental health services offer?

Mental health services provide a range of valuable offerings to support individuals in managing their mental well-being. Our services encompass various forms of support, guidance, and treatment aimed at assisting individuals in navigating mental health challenges. We work collaboratively with clients to address the underlying causes of their mental health challenges and develop effective strategies for long-term healing and wellness.

What are common mental health challenges or disorders?

A mental health challenge encompasses any difficulty an individual may be experiencing. When these challenges significantly impact a person’s functioning and well-being on a frequent basis, they can be considered a “disorder” and cause distress. Common mental health diagnoses include Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Less common diagnoses include Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, PTSD, and personality disorders. These diagnoses help in identifying and understanding specific mental health conditions that individuals may be facing.

Is it important to receive a diagnosis? Is it a “label”?

This is a complex question that both mental health professionals and philosophers have debated for years, and there is no simple answer. On one hand, the importance of an official diagnosis or “label” may not be significant in many cases. Some individuals may struggle with life adversities without meeting specific diagnostic criteria. On the other hand, an accurate diagnosis can provide valuable insights and support for understanding one’s challenges, potentially leading to appropriate help and resources. For example, receiving a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder can validate the experiences of both the individual and their family, while also opening doors to specific resources that may not be accessible without a formal diagnosis.
